About This Design
"The one that got away" normally implies regret on both sides. Applied to a narcissistic relationship it means something else entirely: you are the one they did not manage to keep, and that is not a loss, it is the outcome. The grand gestures in the artwork matter too. Flowers, a ring, a flood of messages: these often arrive precisely when someone is leaving, because the relationship was never about the gestures and always about the control. The joke in the second line is that there was no dignified exit and no closing speech. There was just the decision, and then movement.
